Prep Fathers and Sons volunteer for Groundwork Bridgeport
On April 27, over 30 Prep fathers and sons gathered for a spring community service project. In conjunction with Groundwork Bridgeport, the crew spent the day helping to develop the Reservoir Community Farm -- a production garden for Green Village Initiative.
The 2-acre farm, located in north Bridgeport, will provide fresh produce for residents of the local community for five months each year. The site was once home to a blighted strip mall that had been abandoned for almost 20 years. Local residents joined the Prep students and their fathers to build this valuable asset in the neighborhood. Projects for the day included building, siting and leveling planting beds; as well as moving dozens of yards of topsoil and mulch.
